Student recruitment has never been more competitive. Institutions are competing for students' attention across more channels than ever, often with limited resources. So how do you make sure your university is in the right place, at the right time, for every student who might choose you?
That question sits at the heart of everything we do at UniQuest. It's why we are rolling out UniQuest's next-generation engagement platform to all our partners through a managed, phased programme during 2026.
Built on more than a decade of engagement data, the platform combines deep insight into student behaviour with a living institutional knowledge base, creating AI infrastructure built for meaningful human connection. In 2025 alone, we handled over 12 million communications on behalf of our partners, and every interaction helps the platform learn.
It isn't a new product bolted on, or a generic AI layer. It brings together capabilities that already exist across UniQuest and extends them at scale through deeper intelligence, automation and continuous learning. Designed for higher education by sector experts, it supports a more personalised, proactive and continuously improving student journey.
And we haven't handed everything over to AI. As we discussed in our Beyond Chatbots webinar, as well as our blog post on meaningful AI in student recruitment, students are sensitive to the kind of help they're getting, so trust comes first.
“It sits alongside our human advisers and helps them surface information about students they might not see immediately to help triage incoming inquiries and match them to the appropriate knowledge so that the advisor can produce the best response to the student.”
- Jakub Blackman, Director of Digital Transformation and Innovation.
Let's take a look at the student journey for instance. When a prospective student gets in touch, whether by live chat, WhatsApp, email or phone, that interaction feeds a single view of their behaviour across every channel and stage. This helps to spot blockers and opportunities earlier: a lead going cold, or a student who just needs the right nudge. Human advisers can then reach out at the right moment, understand what's holding the student back and point them in the right direction, without being pushy.
In other words, AI for efficiency, humans for that lasting impact.
Our machine learning propensity engine ranks students by their likelihood to enrol and flags at-risk leads that need intervention. Advisers get a priority list that updates daily, so they can plan outreach at the earliest sensible moment.
Without it, students are prioritised first come, first served, which doesn't suit international students who may only be available at certain times. Propensity scoring isn't currently used at the enquiry management stage, and we'll continue to develop new capabilities as the platform evolves.
Our priority is assisting our partner institutions with their needs, so they don’t have to shoulder the entire burden of student recruitment on their own. More importantly, our next-generation engagement platform was designed to scale with the changing times, meaning we devote our resources to maintain both the platform and its data to keep it functioning at a hundred per cent every day. It continually refines its targeting rules based on results from the whole partner set and, as a result, creates a tailored student engagement experience born from our operational expertise and data. And all our partners benefit from this collective intelligence.
We handle the at-risk and undecided students. You get earlier visibility of issues and opportunities, and increasingly rich insight into the results.
