UniQuest is looking for a commercially focused, insight-driven, and highly skilled business intelligence professional. This role will lead our insight-led data journey and team by collaborating effectively with our stakeholders to shape a centralised function. This will be the single point of truth for data in the business; for us, our customers and for the sector.
The Head of Business Intelligence & Data Insight is tasked with shaping and delivering a business intelligence and insight-led analytics strategy, through a mix of internal team and external resource.
You will be an experienced leader, or currently managing a team and ready to take the step up to a leadership role.
Based from home, there will also be some requirement for face-to-face meetings in London and around the UK occasionally.

This is an exciting time to join UniQuest. Founded in 2013, we are a tech-enabled conversion engine offering intelligent student engagement services to universities.
We drive growth and retention throughout the student journey pipeline from first interest through to enrolment, via direct proactive and responsive engagement. We engage, reengage and in doing so enable a personalised relationship with prospective students at scale.
Based in the UK, UniQuest is a multinational operation experiencing significant growth and currently employing over 110 people. We work with university partners in the UK, US and Europe and the business supports the student journey for an even mix of domestic and international, bringing a fascinating and diverse mix of markets, segments, influencers and influences.
The business intelligence and data insight team are responsible for the creation of a watertight business intelligence infrastructure, using the various data points and sources to make sure they work together and ultimately report via dashboards.
By taking a consultative and collaborative approach this role will seek to understand where we are now, where we need to be, and then create and deliver a data insight plan to get there. We have a whole company vision and we need everybody to come along as part of this journey and this role will be involved in the design and measurement of KPIs and forecasting to drive efficient growth.
Your KPIs will include meaningful business impact, as well as delivery of key tasks and reporting. You will have a strong eye for both the bigger picture and the detail, and the ability to spot inconsistencies and errors and seek solutions to addressing them.
As well as leading the team, this is a hands-on role, so you must have strong analyst skills and experience. It will utilise large volumes of data from disparate sources from which you will be confident creating actionable insights. You will identify both opportunities and risks to the business as a whole and specific functions, and for our university customers.
We want to understand where data integration can be seamless, but also where it can’t be. Where automation is possible to maximise efficiency and timeliness of reports. We have open minds and our key focus is making sure that time and effort is used well and pragmatically.
Through data insight and working closely with colleagues and stakeholders, this role will identify opportunities to offer thought leadership to the sector, devise new products and platform developments.
You will explore new opportunities to work with partner and sector data, using aggregated and anonymised datasets. The goal is to establish meaningful benchmarking and enrich propensity modelling using the wealth of data we have about recruitment and different types of institution.
The data we have and what we do with it
The requirement for direct live contact between students and universities, both inbound and outbound, continues to increase and the channels where we capture data include telephone, online chat, email, events etc. This is used together with the data provided in-cycle by our university partners. We also have huge amounts of text-based data with significant potential in terms of sentiment analysis.
Our relationships with students throughout their journey is managed through Salesforce. The business intelligence and data insight team do not own this and will work collaboratively with the relevant teams to ensure data quality and compatibility throughout the student journey with a range of other data sources.
Operational data sits with the Technical Solutions team who manage integrations into our platform and this role will work closely with them to make sure the data outputs of these integrations are incorporated into our central data warehouse, positively impacting our ability to drive data insights.
We use a range of systems to manage and manipulate and combine data including SQL pipelines, Airflow and Stitch extractors, BitBucket and Tableau amongst others.
For our clients we offer a comprehensive suite of reports, from real-time dashboards to regularly-produced analysis and recommendations. You will enable even more efficient real-time pipeline management, monitoring contracted and forecast conversions and enrolments for our clients, and establishing intervention points and improvements.
We are looking for someone who has experience managing a team of any size, who wishes to move into a leadership role at UniQuest.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Strong data and database skills, specifically SQL and the engineering of analytics processes
- Experienced in analytics utilising a range of disparate data sources (internal, third party sources and external client data)
- Experienced at extracting and cleaning data and creating insight led BI reports in dashboards, ideally Tableau Essential
- Line management experience
- Experience of managing multiple stakeholder needs and making business critical recommendations
- Experience interpreting and communicating business intelligence and data insight effectively at all levels
- Experience working with Salesforce, or other CRM systems in higher education
Experience working with student recruitment and admissions data in the higher education sector
